SGSR is first and foremost a breed rescue. Our purpose is to save German Shepherd Dogs but we are also
involved with helping people keep their dogs, educating the public about spaying & neutering, and working with
other organizations to help better our community at large!
Our passion is to save homeless GSDs from unfortunate circumstances wherever we find them. Whether they are
owner surrenders, dumped in a shelter, picked up as a stray, abused or neglected. In order to accomplish this, we
work with local shelters, current owners, good Samaritans, and other rescue groups. By partnering with other
organizations, SGSR and the groups we work with benefit from economies of scale which results in the rescue of
more animals.
Every GSD we rescue requires a huge support system and that is where our volunteers come in. We strive to empower our volunteers by providing mentors, showing them how important they are to our pack and how they fit in the cycle of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming a GSD; from screening applicants, transporting dogs, setting up events, or providing a much needed foster home.
Each foster home has the potential to save up to 10 dogs in a year. To achieve this we take into account each fosters needs and home environment before placing a dog into their household. We offer each foster training, education, and support as well as a promise to be there whenever they call to ensure a heartwarming experience is had by all.
SGSR is also committed to volunteering our time and talent to charitable and educational efforts within our communities that operate for the benefit of people and/or animals. By networking within our communities for the good of everyone, SGSR can be an ambassador to promote the image of GSDs and provide ongoing training for the breed and those that interact with them.
We hope you feel that our ideals and goals match yours. In the interest of saving this noble breed we have chosen to shoot for the stars and humbly ask for your help. Every set of helping hands matter and we feel that if we aim high we will achieve each and every goal that SGSR was founded on.
With great enthusiasm,
The Southeast German Shepherd Rescue Team
